Give staff access to the Changes tab
Administrators see the Changes tab and the header label on every order. Users with a role need read access to the plugin's data. This guide shows how to grant it.
What each permission allows
| Permission | Allows |
|---|---|
| Orders, View | Also includes read access to the plugin's change log and edit windows, so the Changes tab and the header label are visible. |
| Order editing, View | Read access to the change log, the edit windows and the order. Use it to grant the tab on its own. |
| Orders, Edit | Needed for Extend window and Release now. Without it, both buttons are greyed out. |
A user without read access to the plugin's data does not see the Changes tab or the header label. They still see the order status On hold, because that is a normal order status.
Step 1: Save existing roles once
The plugin adds its read access to the View permission of Orders. A role stores its permissions when it is saved, so roles that existed before you installed the plugin do not get the new access automatically.
- Open Settings > Users & permissions.
- In the Roles list, open each role that has access to orders.
- Click Save without changing anything.
Do this once after installing the plugin.
Step 2: Grant access to a role
- Open Settings > Users & permissions and open the role.
- In the permissions list, find the Orders section. It contains the rows Orders and Order editing.
- Tick View in the Orders row, or tick View in the Order editing row if the role should only see the tab.
- Tick Edit in the Orders row if the role should be able to extend windows and release stuck orders.
- Click Save.
Step 3: Check it
Log in as a user with that role and open an order that went through the plugin. The Changes tab is visible.
Why it matters
A clerk who sees On hold without the tab cannot tell why the order is waiting. If they move it on by hand, the customer's window ends immediately and any change the customer was about to confirm is lost. Give everyone who processes orders at least read access.
