Offer editing only for some orders

By default every new order gets an edit window. With eligibility rules from the Rule Builder you can limit this to some orders, for example only orders from a certain customer group or only orders below a certain value.

How the rules are applied

  • The rules are checked once, when the order is placed.
  • An order must match every rule you choose.
  • An order that does not match is never put on hold and never gets a window or a mail. It goes straight into your normal processing in Open.
  • If you leave the field empty, every order gets a window.

Step 1: Create the rule

  1. Open Settings > Rule Builder and create a rule, or pick an existing one.
  2. Add the conditions you need.

The rule is checked on the order at the moment it is placed, before payment and before any Flow has run. Conditions about the cart, the customer and the order itself work. Conditions that depend on something that happens later, such as a Flow adding a tag, do not.

Step 2: Choose the rule in the settings

  1. Open the plugin's configuration page: Extensions > My extensions, then Configure on Order Editing — Self-Service for Customers.
  2. Optional: choose a sales channel at the top of the page to set rules for that sales channel only. A sales channel without its own rules uses the rules set for all sales channels.
  3. In the Edit window card, select your rules in Only orders matching these rules can be changed.
  4. Click Save.

Step 3: Check the result

Place one order that matches and one that does not.

  • The matching order shows the banner and is On hold.
  • The other order has no banner and stays Open. Its Changes tab has a Refused row with the reason Order does not match the rules for editing, and in the Order editing card the Window field reads Closed with the reason Rules not met.

If a rule stops working

A rule can become invalid, for example when an extension that provided one of its conditions is removed. An invalid rule matches no order, so no order in a sales channel that uses it gets a window.

The configuration page warns about this at the top of the Edit window card: "These rules can no longer be checked, so no order matches them, …" and names the rules. Fix the rule in the Rule Builder, or remove it from the setting.

A rule that has been deleted is simply ignored.
